Current Events (Spring, 2010)

We are in search of the lowest common denominator that will include everyone in the megaconference. At our teleconference meeting in May (see history link below), We discussed a proposal that did just that. In essence, we proposed that every participating organization co-locate their conference one year, share only minimal events and some language and style in the marketing of the event. The group seemed to respond favorably to the idea, I believe that it was seen as a positive step in the right direction following a year of pursuing other, riskier (and more divisive) options.

This proposal was criticized for being incomplete, not detailed enough to take back to the boards for a vote. And so we remain at an impasse, albeit with an emerging option. The sole task of the committee at this point is to legitimate this model or come up with some thing new. To serve this task, I have created a forum and a WIKI. The forum is a place to discuss the components of the model, the WIKI is for actually building the components. Members of the committee are tasked with collaborating on the model until it is deemed appropriate for board approval.
