Dixon, C.G., & Rasch, J.D.  (2006).  Engaging minority populations through community outreach and engagement.  Journal of Rehabilitation Administration, 30(1), 33-46.

For decades, rehabilitation and mental health agencies have provided outreach services to local communities.  Despite these efforts, millions of Americans remain unaware of the availablity of such services and as a result, go without state funded vocational rehabilitation services and suffer with undiagnosed and/or untreated mental illness.  This article examines traditional and current practices in rehabilitation and mental health case finding and community outreach activities.  Characteristics of communities and agencies which may facilitate or hinder involvement in social, rehabilitation, and mental health services are examined and new community outreach strategies are outlined.
