5/21/2012 Training & Engagement in Vocational Rehabilitation Interpreting

Date: May 21st, 2012
Time: 3:30pm - 4:30pm(Eastern)

Presenter: Anna Witter-Merithew, M.Ed., Director, MARIE Center and Trudy Schafer, MIP, Project Coordinator, National Interpreter Education Center.

Summary: Historically, VR agencies were a primary employer of interpreters especially for Deaf andhard-of-hearing clients.  In recent years, interpreters have relied less on VR referrals for employment opportunities.  Also the interpreting needs of VR agencies have grown to include interpreters who are capable of interpreting for professional, in-house staff who are Deaf.  The National Consortium of Interpreter Education Centers has a federal mandate to expand the number and enhance the quality of interpreters working in VR settings.  This webinar will discuss steps currently underway to satisfy this mandate. .

Audience: Interpreters; interpreting education program administrators, faculty, and students; vocational rehabilitation personnel, and interested others.

Questions: Please direct questions to Crystal Eusebio at c.eusebio@neu.edu.
