Date: April 23rd, 2012
Time: 3:30pm - 4:30pm(Eastern)

Presenter: Dennis Cokely, Ph.D., Director, American Sign Language Program; Principal Investigator, National Interpreter Education Center; and Chair, Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at Northeastern University.

Summary: Many undergraduate disciplines such as economics and political science expect and foster research at the undergraduate level.  As more students participate in 4-year interpreter education programs, there is an opportunity to incorporate a similar expectation for interpreting majors.  Dr. Cokely will explain the on-going research requirement at Northeastern University for interpreting majors and will discuss some of the projects undertaken by seniors. He will also explain how the National Interpreter Education Center will invite programs participating in the NIEC Outcomes Circle to initiate an undergraduate research journal in interpreting that will become open to the entire field.

Audience: Interpreting education program administrators, faculty, and students, and interested others.
