In recent years, interpreters have relied less on VR referrals for employment opportunities. Also the interpreting needs of VR agencies have grown to include interpreters who are capable of interpreting for professional, in-house staff who are Deaf. The National Consortium of Interpreter Education Centers has a federal mandate to expand the number and enhance the quality of interpreters working in VR settings.
